Pickett Trail - 3/18/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 1star
Distance: 1.00 Mile Duration: N/A
The trail has not been maintained in some time. Apartments have been built across the river from the trail, so there's not much solitude left. A month ago we found that sections of the trail had been vandalized, so passage is even more difficult than it was.
A nice urban hike
Georgetown - San Gabriel Trail - 3/18/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: 1point5stars Solitude: 2stars
Distance: 3.00 Miles Duration: N/A
This trail is in the process of being extended. It's not complete yet, but eventually will run all the way from SanGabriel Park to Lake Georgetown. There is some spectacular scenery that will be included when the trail is complete.
A nice change from the usual CenTex Hike.
Comanche Bluff Trail - 3/18/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: 2stars Solitude: 3point5stars
Distance: 8.00 Miles Duration: N/A
Rolling hills instead of cliffs and rocks! The trail does continue on all the way to the intersection of highway 95 and highway 29. There are access points on both the north and south sides of the bridge, so you can hike the north side of the lake as well. The north side access area is a popuar fishing hole. This area is the wildlife area and some public hunting is allowed, so be aware of hunting seasons.
A great hike.
Chalk Ridge Falls Park - 3/18/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: 2stars Solitude: 3stars
Distance: 5.00 Miles Duration: N/A
We hiked this trail during spring break and found lots of kids gathered at the falls. The rest of the trail was very peaceful. We took a side trip at the first bridge. There is a stair case going down to the stream. We hiked up stream for a little over 1/2 mile. We found many springs gushing from the rock face and some caves with water flowing out of them. Also saw a lot of wildlife in this area. Don't attempt the side trip in wet weather however as mostly hiked in the stream bed.
Nice easy quick getaway.
