Nice, quiet trail walk
Trinity Trail - 9/26/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 10.00 Miles Duration: N/A
I'm a long distance trail walker (I also racewalk in road races) so I was visiting Trinity Trails for trail training. It was a pretty good place to train. It's not a difficult trail (gentle rolling hills, no rocks, not twisty or rooty) but the ground itself is pretty uneven so you still have to watch your footing. I did a 5 mile out-and-back from East Fork to Collin and back to EF. I didn't see a soul until the last mile when I saw four horseback riders and then one hiker. It took me two hours to walk the ten miles. I definitely recommend it. Oh, the MapPoint maps has an error. The East Fork trailhead is just to the West of the park entrance, not the East. It is a an area enclosed with a white metal fence and a horse ring in the middle. When you walk through the gate, the trail is immediately to your left (it runs along the road for a while) not straight ahead toward the lake (there is a small burgeoning trail here that is misleading; it only goes about 75 feet).
Great medium-difficulty running/walking trail
Rowlett Creek Preserve - 9/12/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 10.90 Miles Duration: N/A
I'm a distance racewalker and I walked on this trail to train for some long distance trail races. It's got some difficult dips and loops and hills interspersed with some very easy and relaxing sections. It's maintained by DORBA and very popular with mountain bikers so you have to be careful. Also, since it's an urban preserve, there is a fair amount of trash and the water doesn't smell great. But there is plenty of wildlife, especially big spiders that build webs across the trail. Be careful if you are the trail blazer that day!
Nice cement trail for walking, jogging
Duck Creek Trail - 8/20/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 10.10 Miles Duration: N/A
This mixed-use trail is near my house and I walk on it frequently (I'm a racewalker). It's right in the middle of a residential neighborhood and crosses several streets. so it's not seclusive or relaxing. But it is a nice trail for walking or jogging. It is marked at 1/4 mile intervals so that is useful if you are trying to walk a certain distance.
Great challenging trail run
Northshore Trail - 8/14/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: Solitude:
Distance: 19.10 Miles Duration: N/A
I'm a distance trail walker and I walked here to train for upcoming trail races. This is a great trail. Almost constant up -and-down, lots of rocky and rooty sections, great views, nice wildlife, not very crowded (until later in the day), very hard on the legs. I can't wait to head back and do it again! Highly recommended.
