Lake Somerville Trailway - 11/1/2005  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 2stars Solitude: 5stars
Distance: 13.00 Miles Duration: N/A
Most recent hike I did 6 1/2 miles in and back (13 total) from the Birch Creek side down to Yeagua Creek. This trail is amazingly different in the different seasons. Wild hogs are abudant and mule and white tail deer are not uncommon sights. Migratory birds are plentiful in the marshland areas around the trail. Ive done several overnight solo trips of about the same length. Aside from a few horses and an ocassional hiker or biker, the trail offers a great deal of solitude. This latest hike i saw no one. I usually take a hammock and good book for the mid hike break.

Bastrop State Park - Lost Pines Trail - 9/1/2005  [View Log Page]

Ive done the lost pines trail 4 times now, twice backpacking in for an overnight. This is my favorite trail for scenic photography. I lug my Mamiya 645 with several lenses and strudy tripod and shoot black and white for display prints. I enjoy the camping in pretty much all seasons on this trail as the pine forest seems to be relatively cool year round (to me anyway). Nice elevation changes and variety of vegetation is nice. I rarely see wildlife even in the deeper portions of the trail though. I do see ALOT of runners on the trail.
