Temps in the mid-70's, sunny then partly cloudy and light breeze.

Did a roundabout route to Cougar Overlook by hiking along a cow path along the barb wire fence bordering the grazing area for the longhorns; the longhorns were in the area but left us alone as we hiked by them.

Not much to report about the route except we saw quite a few water birds along the North Concho River.

Return route was along designated trails.  We saw lots of birds, including a juvenile Broad-Winged Hawk, a kestrel and a pair of Great Horned Owls. Additionally, we saw a cottontail as well as a jack rabbit!  A longer than expected hike but an enjoyable one.
