Park Mid-Section Burkett Park to Cougar Overlook

A small butterfly resting on an Indian Blanket
Looked so nice and peaceful that I had to snap the picture. After taking the picture, I walked by and the butterfly took off.

Out     Burkett Park > Burkett Trail > service road (ENE) > Cougar Overlook       3.0 miles

Return Cougar Overlook > Flintstone > Turkey Creek > Armadillo (E) > East Potts Creek > Burkett Trail > Burkett Park    5.2 miles

Temps in the low 80's, slight breeze and partly cloudy.

A good hike with friends.  An unusual incident on the Boy Scout Bridge near the north end of Burkett Trail.  As we were crossing the bridge, we saw a snake (non rattler) had trapped itself between some bridge planks and couldn't get loose.  We were able to lift a plank and the snake dropped down from the bridge, hit the brush below and disappeared - no idea how long it had been caught.

Mosquitoes were still present but not as bad as my previous hike - due to bug spray or ?? I don't know.

We saw some horned toads, lots of lizards and numerous grasshoppers that were built like tanks.

NOTES

Water, shade, info kiosk and dry toilets at Burkett Park.

Water, shade and info kiosk at 5 Points Junction (where Flintstone, Turkey Creek and River Bend trails meet) on return leg.  This is the only water stop for humans on the route.
