Hot, but quiet
Guadalupe River State Park - 7/31/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: 1star Solitude: 3stars
Distance: 5.50 Miles Duration: N/A
My wife and I hiked all of the loop trails on this sunny and hot Saturday morning. We enjoyed the ease of this trail and the fact that NOBODY else was hiking on this day(surprising for a Saturday!). I was only mildly disappointed to find that the overlook on the bluff did not offer a big FULL view of the river and scenery below...but what can ya do? When we got to the top of the Loop 3 trail, we got off the trail and stopped to eat at an empty picnic table in the campgrounds before heading back. Real easy, enjoyable trail to follow...but maybe not the right time of year to fully enjoy the wildlife(only spotted 2 deer) viewing with the heat...but yeah, I'd hike it again.
Hike along Lake Lavon
Trinity Trail - 7/25/2004  [View Log Page]
Rating: N/A Difficulty: 1point5stars Solitude: 4stars
Distance: 9.00 Miles Duration: N/A
Woke up bright and early to beat the heat this fine Sunday. Struck out on this trail on my own(had someone pick me up at the end of the trail). A very quiet trail this particular day...only ran into one other couple who were on horseback. Great views of Lake Lavon...a mild, mostly flat trail, but it's a hard trail in terms of that it's hard on your feet. The trail runs along 3 separate parks along the west bank of the lake...these are also your only good places to stop for a break, too...not a lot of good stopping places. BUT...if you can whip out the first 5 miles from Brockdale to Collin Park, you can stop at Collin and walk to some picnic benches nearby to rest, eat, watch the boats in the marina...and build up enough strength the finish the last part of the trail. I recommend this trail and plan to do it again in the near future...really felt like I was out in the country, even though I was mere minutes from the big city.
