Great little excursion. Enjoyed the flat sandy trails on the Bay side of the park. Got there about two hours before sunset. Walked the trails, and stood on the observation tower. Views were nice, although you could see the observation tower from most of the trails (observation tower is about 100 ft from parking areas) so there was not much chance of getting lost. Did not get to walk the beach on this visit. Will definitely go back someday to finish.
Really Enjoyed the trail. The Palmetto trail is only 1/3 of a mile and was over way to soon. However the trail adjacent to it which is simply labeled Hiking Trail on the state park map is 1.25 miles in length. In all there 7 diffrent trails within the park for a total of about 3.66 miles. Recommend doing this in Winter months, not so much because of the heat , but the mosquitoes.
