A maze of trails

Coppertone could not pass up this old Oak that was just begging to be climbed. It even had a nice notch on which to sit.

We concentrated today's visit on the Mud Creek Loop in the nothern part of the park. What we thought would be a relatively simple loop turned into a perplexing transect of that appendage. Though the official park map shows a few sets of relatively simple trails it also prints in small print a large number of minor trails. But even those additions don't cover all of the possibilities that exist.

We found our way back easily enough and roughly covered the area we intended to cover, but we ended up covering some ground that we otherwise did not intend due to making a wrong choice here and there with regard to the "official" route. For many hikers and mounatin bikers that's not an issue. For someone who was trying to map "the" trail, it's a bit more frustrating.

Some other hikers have posted here about the abundance of deer. That is no joke. We lost count of the deer spotted on the trail but it must have been more than two dozen.
